The Gwinnett Remembrance Coalition’s Last Memorial for Charles Hale

Gwinnett Remembrance Coalition, a leading advocate for equality and social change, announces its upcoming event aimed at memorializing and finalizing a home for the soil of Charles Hale, Lawrenceville Square lynching victim. The dedication will take place on June 23, 2024, during Sunday service at Salem Missionary Baptist Church in Lilburn, GA.

This event is the final dedication in a series for the physical jar of soil that symbolizes the remains of Mr. Hale. Salem Missionary Baptist Church will serve as the last home for the story and history of the horrible and tragic event that led to Mr. Hale’s untimely death.

The Gwinnett Remembrance Coalition acknowledges, remembers, and educates the community about the county’s violent and racist past. The Project and the Equal Justice Initiative collaborate to construct a memorial that properly honors the memory of Gwinnett’s victims of racial violence, both those whose names are known and those whose names are lost to history. This memorial inspires the community to come together, fosters conversations about historical and current injustices, and facilitates dialogue, trust, and healing.

The soil dedication event welcomes the public, and we encourage everyone, regardless of background or experience in activism, to attend. Although the event is free, we are requesting that attendees obtain tickets to participate. Tickets can be obtained online at Eventbrite.
