The Grief Forum: Explore Grief Literacy Through Drama & Play with Mel Kidd
About this Event
Using drama-inspired games, play, embodied practice and reflection we will explore what it means to be grief literate and build our own understanding of grief literacy. Together we will make discoveries about how we can better support people experiencing grief in the communities we are part of.
The workshop will offer a supportive and responsive space to harness theatre and performance to explore conversations about grief. Everyone is welcome to take part in ways that feel comfortable for them, and there will be many ways to contribute to the conversation. No previous experience of theatre or drama needed, and there will be no expectation to ‘perform’. Wear something comfortable and bring your curiosity and willingness to connect with others.

Melanie Kidd is an applied theatre facilitator focusing on community organising, education, and social change. With over 15 years’ experience in community arts and outreach, she’s continually driven by the power of the arts to open conversations, develop knowledge and understanding, and build community. Her current research explores initiating conversation around grief literacy using drama and theatre as dialogical tools.
Working in educational outreach, her pedagogical approach explores embodied forms of learning and knowledge creation. She facilitates space to play and create, understanding that they are integral parts of human existence – just like breathing!
She loves to walk, swim, move, dance, paddleboard and read play scripts aloud in the pub with friends (how terribly thespian!).
