The Green Ray (1986) at White Whale Bookstore

Windup Cinema returns to White Whale Bookstore on August 21 with a quintessential portrait of the summertime blues: The Green Ray, by influential French New Wave figure Éric Rohmer. 

Frequent Rohmer collaborator and credited co-writer of the film Marie Rivière stars as Delphine, a recently single office worker anxious over how to spend her summer vacation after a sudden change of plans. In a search for love and an escape from the superficial, Delphine wanders across France hoping to fill the listless months of heat and transcend herself. 

Filmed with a skeleton crew and built on significant improvisation from its lead, The Green Ray is a shining example of Rohmer's signature natural, yet engrossing stylistic approach to cinema.
