About this Event
Join us for a free pollinator census training on Friday, Aug. 22nd, beginning at 9 am, and then go into the Brevard Discovery Garden (if you would like) and do a pollinator count for 15 minutes. This training is open to Master Gardeners and the public, so share this information with your family and friends!
We will only be meeting at 3695 Lake Dr., Cocoa, Florida. If you would like to also count pollinators on Saturday, August 23rd, you can do so in any location you choose!
The training will cover identifying the pollinator groups of Carpenter bees, Bumble bees, Honeybees, Wasps, Flies, Butterflies/Moths, and Other insects. If you want to conduct your first count in the garden after the training, bring a chair, hat, beverage, clipboard, pencil/pen, hat, and a timer (like the one on a cell phone). Copies of the Great Southeast Pollinator Census Observation Sheet will be provided. To participate, you must fill out that sheet and upload your data to the GSEPC website.
The Southeast #PollinatorCensus is a citizen science project created by the University of Georgia. This project is designed for everyone in Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Florida, and now Alabama to participate in pollinator conservation!
The Great Southeast Pollinator Census was created by the University of Georgia Extension Services in 2019, and three major goals were identified for this citizen science project. The goals include creating sustainable pollinator habitats, increasing the entomological literacy of the citizens, and generating useful data about our pollinator populations.
NOTE: Classes and events may be canceled at any time due to low registration or other circumstances, with full refunds issued for paid events. Similar classes or events are often offered on future dates.
The University of Florida is committed to providing universal access to all of our events.
