In the great nothing -or the loneliest place in the universe a vast void of emptiness or the loneliest place in the universe - all things look familiar, yet not all the same. A broken triptych immortalized in space and time - where the strange become the ordinary without surprise and desire and terror thrive side by side.
In this darkness, dreams are the midnight movies of the mind that narrate their riddles to the blind. Front is back, up is down, the end is the beginning and the distance between near and far is distorted. What is visible dissolves into shadow and the present is fragmented to the pieces of a haunted past.
Fear of the void and of loss can fill a house with ghosts that live in many worlds - the real, the remembered, the imagined. Confined figures - await isolated in existential cages, where the body becomes the only site of memory - suspended between what once was and what never happened.

Choreographer’s note:
The inspiration behind this piece comes from the Boötes Void, or "The Great Nothing." It is one of the largest known "voids" and perhaps the most lonely region in the observable universe. A super-void, an extensive cosmic absence, characterized by an extremely low density of galaxies. As in this cosmic void, nothingness is not empty but is characterized by darkness and vast distances, as is separation or abrupt loss. The great nothing is for me a space without space - like the solitary and isolated “cages” I feel we currently inhabit- and are relentlessly called to forget - numbed and immobilized.

Antonia Economou is a dancer and choreographer. She explores themes of decay, decadence, and the fragility of the human mind, illuminating spaces where the boundaries between the real and the imagined begin to blur. Her academic engagement with art history combined with her movement practices fuel her work, fostering an ongoing dialogue between cinema, the visual arts and the creation and dramaturgy of images on stage. Her most recent dance-theatre work, ATITLON (2024–2025), received warm critical acclaim and was presented in sold-out performances in Athens. Her short films, I WONDER YES I CONFESS I WONDER and SCOTÓMA, have been awarded and selected in 17 international film festivals. In 2024, she founded Tzamia Krystalla, a performance space in Athens.

Στο the great nothing - ένα απέραντο κενό ή το πιο μοναχικό σημείο του σύμπαντος - όλα μοιάζουν οικεία, μα τίποτα δεν είναι ακριβώς το ίδιο. Ένα σπασμένο τρίπτυχο στον χώρο και τον χρόνο -μια απαθανάτιση- όπου το ανοίκειο οικειοποιείται δίχως έκπληξη και η επιθυμία και ο τρόμος συνυπάρχουν.
Μέσα σε αυτό το σκοτάδι, τα όνειρα είναι οι μεταμεσονύχτιες ταινίες του νου, που αφηγούνται αινίγματα σε όσους δεν μπορούν να δουν. Το μπροστά γίνεται πίσω, το τέλος η αρχή, το πάνω κάτω, και η απόσταση ανάμεσα στο κοντινό και το μακρινό παραμορφώνεται. Το ορατό διαλύεται στη σκιά και το παρόν κατακερματίζεται σε ένα στοιχειωμένο παρελθόν.
Ο φόβος του κενού και της απώλειας μπορεί να γεμίσει ένα σπίτι με φαντάσματα που κατοικούν σε πολλούς κόσμους - τον πραγματικό, τον μνημονικό, τον φανταστικό.
Έγκλειστες μορφές αναμένουν απομονωμένες μέσα σε υπαρξιακά κλουβιά, όπου το σώμα γίνεται ο μοναδικός τόπος μνήμης - αιωρούνται ανάμεσα σε ό,τι υπήρξε κάποτε και σε ό,τι δεν συνέβη ποτέ.

Σημείωμα χορογράφου
Η έμπνευση για το έργο προέρχεται από το “Κενό του Βοώτη” (The Boötes Void) ή αλλιώς «Το Μεγάλο Τίποτα». Πρόκειται για ένα από τα μεγαλύτερα γνωστά «κενά», και ίσως την πιο μοναχική περιοχή στο παρατηρήσιμο σύμπαν. Ένα υπερ-κενό, μια εκτενής κοσμική απουσία που χαρακτηρίζεται από την εξαιρετικά χαμηλή πυκνότητα γαλαξιών. Όπως αυτό το κοσμικό κενό, το τίποτα δεν είναι άδειο αλλά χαρακτηρίζεται από σκοτάδι και αχανείς αποστάσεις, όπως και ένας αποχωρισμός ή μια απώλεια. Το the great nothing είναι για μένα ένας χώρος χωρίς χώρο - σαν τα μοναχικά “κλουβια” στα οποία νιώθω πλέον ότι κατοικούμε απομονωμένοι και καλούμαστε διαρκώς να ξεχάσουμε, να μουδιάσουμε, να ακινητοποιηθούμε.

Η Αντωνία Οικονόμου είναι χορεύτρια και χορογράφος. Εξερευνά θέματα όπως η παρακμή, η φθορά και η ευθραυστότητα του ανθρώπινου νου, φωτίζοντας τις περιοχές όπου τα όρια του πραγματικού και του φανταστικού θολώνουν. Η ακαδημαϊκή της σχέση με την ιστορία της τέχνης σε συνδυασμό με την κινητική της έρευνα επηρεάζουν καθοριστικά το έργο της, τροφοδοτώντας έναν συνεχή διάλογο ανάμεσα στον κινηματογράφο, τις εικαστικές τέχνες και την σκηνική δημιουργία και δραματουργία εικόνων. Το πιο πρόσφατο χοροθεατρικό της έργο, ATITLON (2024-2025), γνώρισε θερμή κριτική υποδοχή και παρουσιάστηκε σε sold-out παραστάσεις στην Αθήνα. Οι μικρού μήκους ταινίες της I WONDER YES I CONFESS I WONDER και SCOTÓMA, έχουν αποσπάσει βραβεία και συμμετοχές σε 17 διεθνή φεστιβάλ. Το 2024 εγκαινίασε στην Αθήνα το χώρο παραστατικών τεχνών Τζάμια Κρύσταλλα.
