On September 30th, the Ocean County Arts Network will have their first social event, the “Great Give/Get Social.” It will be held at the TRAC Toms River Artist Community gallery (40 Main St) on Sept 30th, from 6pm to 8pm. The Goal: facilitate artists of different disciplines getting inspiration from each other, and to share info about the various organizations that exist to support art and artists in Ocean County. We are calling this the “Great Give/Get Social” because we are providing ways for artists to give and get advice, and inspiration from each other. Many artists do their art by themselves, but art comes alive when it is shared with others, so let’s reach out and support each other in person! Here are some of the things we will be doing:
We will have boards provided for people to write the best advice they ever got that helped them as artists. (If you’d like to help create these boards, let us know!)
We will also have a “Mystery Bag” challenge, which involves artists bringing in something that “instigates” their art (such as flower petals from someone who uses them to make art, or a poem that you say before every project) and then swapping that with someone else’s “instigator.” You can take a mystery bag home and make your art while using this new instigator item for inspiration.
We will also have a “story time” set-up in a connecting room, where actors/brave non-actors will share small, inspirational quotes/scenes about artists and the artistic journey. (Want to do this? Let us know!)
We will have representatives and documentation from various organizations that exist to help people like you!
