About this Event
The Great Dictionary of the Yiddish Language is a 60 minute concert that tells the tragi-comic story of Yiddish linguist Yudel Mark’s unfinished effort to create the first comprehensive Yiddish dictionary. The Great Dictionary invites audiences to contemplate the surprisingly grand ambition of Yiddish culture after its decimation during the Holocaust and to consider the power of language to transform and shape us.
May 4, 2024 - 5:00 PM
Featuring performances by tenor Jason Weisinger, baritone Gideon Dabi, and mezzo-sopranos Kelly Guerra, Kristin Gornstein & Caitlin McKechney. An ensemble featuring clarinet, string quintet, and piano will be led by conductor David Bloom.
The Great Dictionary of the Yiddish Language is part of Bang on a Can's Long Play Festival, in collaboration with American Opera Projects (AOP) and The Neighborhood: An Urban Center for Jewish Life.
