9.50am - Family Business Insight - Jennie Johnson MBE
Jennie Johnson MBE is a serial entrepreneur, exited founder and the Co-Founder and CEO of Vets at Home, a national home veterinary care network supporting pet owners, vets and pet care partners through end-of-life care.
Jennie founded Kids Allowed in 2003 and grew it into one of the UK’s leading nursery groups before successfully exiting the business in 2020. During that journey, she built an award-winning organisation known for exceptional quality, service and customer experience. She was the first woman to win CEO of the Year at the UK Private Business Awards in 2017 and was named UK Businesswoman of the Year in 2019.
In 2024, Jennie launched Vets at Home to bring the same standards of compassion, trust and operational excellence into the veterinary sector. The business provides dignified at-home end-of-life care for pets, while building a trusted national network for veterinary surgeons and partnerships with practices, crematoria, insurers and others across the pet care space.
Jennie is also committed to supporting and educating pet owners around one of the most difficult and taboo subjects in pet ownership. Many families feel vulnerable and alone when facing the decision to say goodbye, yet around 92% of owners will need tomake an end-of-life decision for their pet. Her ambition is simple: to make saying goodbye feel calmer, clearer and more supported for families, while creating the vets’ favourite network to work with.
Jennie will share her passion for creating businesses with a purpose by sharing her story with us.

Workshop 3 - Winning in Family Business Disputes: How to Prevent Conflict, Navigate Succession and Resolve Disputes while Protecting Value.
Robin Somerville grew up inside a family business. His own family ran a small business that, like many, was both the source of the family’s identity and the source of much of its tension. That early experience informs the practical, human-centred focus of his recent book, 'Winning in Family Business Disputes.' As a practising barrister, mediator, investigator and fee-paid judge, he now resolves the disputes that other families did not catch in time, and helps the ones that did catch them put structures in place to prevent the next one.
In this workshop Robin will share his thoughts on why family business disputes are different from any other commercial dispute, why they happen, what to do when they arrive, what the law can and cannot do about them, and how to come out of one with the business intact and, where possible, the family too.
