Ever wondered who Emma Cons was to have a gardens named for her in the centre of Waterloo? How the Old Vic became a theatre to bring people south of the river instead of the West End? Lilian Baylis might not be a household name but did you know she has probably shaped how you and Britain spend their spare time more than any one else? Then come and meet Emma and Lilian, the aunt and niece who changed London's theatre world, housing, politics and created the environment that made the Festival of Britain and National Theatre possible.
Walk with your guide Nikky Catto who is a former Waterloo resident and see and hear about all aspects of these grand ladies from the dramatic onstage to off stage! See Waterloo through a different angle even if you think you know the area inside out or it is your first time there!
This walk is up to 2 hours long as we have a little Lambeth Heritage Month bonus in store. Meet at Emma Cons Gardens. Second stop is the The Old Vic. Tour concludes at Lambeth North tube station.
