About this Event

The Good Grief Winter Retreat is a sensory journey toward holding on, letting go, and finding your way.

Attention Grievers: Have you lost someone or something and find yourself struggling to navigate the days? You are not alone.

Join psychiatrist and resilience expert Dr. Glenda Wrenn Gordon, local artist Tay Kiteswali, and special guest Queen Ahneva Ahneva, founder of the African Textile Museum, for a one-day Winter Retreat at Legacy Park titled “Good Grief!” — an immersive, sensory-rich experience designed to help you explore new ways of living alongside loss.

On Saturday, January 31st, after the holiday shimmer has faded and New Year’s resolutions have softened, many of us will find ourselves visited once again by the familiar, and often unwelcome, presence of Your Majesty Grief. This retreat offers a compassionate space to meet that presence with curiosity, creativity, and community.

Throughout the day, you will engage multiple senses and modalities to discover practices that support healing and meaning-making, including:

  • Developing a “Personal Sabbath” routine to cultivate soul rest and renewal.
  • Engaging with nature and using “Morning Altars” as means to make memorial in the flow of life
  • Creating a “Good Grief: Book of Woe and Wonder” using simple, accessible, creative practices guided by Tay Kiteswali. The book and the techniques you take home are designed to support you year-round in your grief journey.
  • Experiencing the “Strands of Love Weaving Practice”, which is a tactile, connective ritual honoring lineage, memory, and the threads that bind us; led by Queen Ahneva Ahneva.
  • Incorporating music and poetry to connect with yourself and in community with others
  • Exploring other ways to create sacred moments from the everyday waves of grief
  • Participating in a “Circle of Sacred Lamentation”, a time-bounded communal experience of emotional release.

All types of loss are warmly welcomed. All belief systems are respected.

For less than the cost of a single therapy session, you can experience a transformative, community-centered day of healing. An Early Bird Discount of $50 will be automatically applied through December 15th.
