The use of sound to facilitate meditation has been used by all cultures. Certainly one of the earliest metal instruments used was the Gong which has been traced back to at least 2000 B.C. Unlike predictable music compositions, gongs produce an unpredictable array of pitches and harmonics, creating soundscapes that are felt in the physical and energy bodies more deeply, often outside the prediction of the listener's ear.
Gongs are somewhat capricious in nature and seem to have their own intelligence. For this reason The Gong Experience plays WITH the gongs, listening to where they guide us next and adding complimentary instruments to round out the overall experience. Your only obligations is to relax into a receiving, meditative state of mind and BEing!
About Sahadev and Kasimira:
According to Sahadev (Steve Brazier) the sound of the Gong, when played properly and with intention, has the capacity to become a perfect vehicle to inner space. Because it is pure sound and pre-music, it can reach deeper places and release emotional blocks in a most powerful and primal way.
Sahadev began his yogic path as a man in his 20's in London. He obtained a Sivananda book that intrigued and captivated him. It was much later that his studies took a more serious note at The Atma Center in Cleveland. After 2 trips and several months in India, Saha Dev found a practice that both strengthened and comforted him.
Kasimira says "On a trip to Phoenix I experienced a Hatha Gong class at SWIHA. In order to bring that experience to Cleveland it was required that you were a yoga instructor. I never wanted to teach yoga but that Gong! That I wanted to do!" She took her 200 hour training with Leela Matta at The Peaceful Valley Ashram, a Sivananda based yoga school and began looking for a gong. Little did she know that a chance introduction by a fellow musician to her now musical and life partner, Steve, would bring this dream to fruition. Having studied and practiced gong techniques with Steve and having the support of he and the local yoga community, she is ready to share the experience with others.
What to bring & wear:
Create your safe personal space by wearing comfortable clothing, bringing a mat/pad/blanket to lay upon, a blanket or wrap for cover (your body temp may drop during relaxation) and whatever other item you are inspired to bring (i.e., crystals, favorite stuffy, pillow)
