The Glacier Quartet-June Concert

The Glacier Quartet will perform three very personal works from the Romantic period. Beethoven’s 11th quartet Op.95, the “Serioso,” written as an experiment just prior to his most mature compositions. Hugo Wolf, a Viennese composer known for his art songs, wrote “Italian Serenade,” his only quartet and most famous string work. Bedrich Smetana’s “From My Life” is a biographical work by the father of Czech musical nationalism. Both Beethoven and Smetana were deaf when they composed their works, and Wolf was on the cusp of being consigned to a mental institution.
