Did you know that stranded ice might have played a significant role in shaping beautiful Lake Minnetonka? Glacial geologist Dr. Carrie Jennings will take us on a journey through time, unveiling the secrets of the lake's creation and the part glaciers played in forming the lake and the surrounding region. Co-sponsored by the .
Carrie Jennings is the Research and Policy Director at Freshwater and a licensed professional geologist, applying her understanding of geology and hydrogeology to policy to improve groundwater sustainability and reduce surface-water pollution.
Previously, she worked at the Minnesota DNR overseeing standards for groundwater maps and reports. During her 24 years with the Minnesota Geological Survey, she mapped glacial sediments across half the state and published 28 maps and 35 articles on their impact on land use and water quality. Dr. Jennings has been adjunct faculty in Earth and Environmental Sciences at the University of Minnesota, teaching Glacial Geology for 30 years.

The Lake Minnetonka Historical Society tells the story of Lake Minnetonka by collecting, preserving and sharing its history.
The Society was formed in October 2023 through the consolidation of the Excelsior-Lake Minnetonka Historical Society, the Museum of Lake Minnetonka, the Wayzata Historical Society and the Westonka Historical Society. The new organization has one of the largest archival and three-dimensional collections of Lake Minnetonka history available in-person and online and maintains a Research Archives in Wayzata, as well as Museums in Excelsior, Mound and Wayzata.
The Society also shares the history of the lake through a variety of public programs and experiences, publishes and sells a number of books about the history of the area and is committed to returning its historic 1906 streetcar steamboat Minnehaha to active operation on Lake Minnetonka to continue her life as a floating museum.
