The Gentrification of Twerk & SW

Tap in to a live lecture with me, BammRose, as I discuss the very real harm of appropriation via the pole fitness community, and its impact on both the SW and Black communities. Featuring collected data, excerpts from my lecture given at Cornell University, updated theories and group discourse, this symposium aims to educate attendees on what the harm is, and how we can best move forward as a community.

The goal of this symposium is not to bridge gaps with the pole fitness community, or to right their wrongs, but instead to formulate understanding for concerned and interested allies, as well as provide solution based information for attendees, specifically sex workers and Black creators.

The appropriation of cultures by a dominant, colonizing demographic, is something that is an ongoing and often heated discussion, in the internet community. There is the side of the opressor and the side of the oppressed. I will be discussing and platforming the voices of the oppressed.

Also to be discussed: community building efforts, allies vs. accomplices, creating vs. copying, and more!

• Must have access to Zoom.
• Please bring a pen, notebook and have 1-3 questions prompted.
• Waiting room will be opened 15 minutes prior to the event beginning.
• Trigger Warning: If you cannot engage in civil conversation, healthy debates, and are sensitive when a person disagrees with / challenges your perspective, this is not the event for you.
