The Future of Suburbia VI: LEADERS AND LEGENDS

Our annual event, now its sixth year, focuses on the Future of Suburbia and this year centers around LEADERS AND LEGENDS – the trailblazers and innovators who have led the design, planning and development of projects and precincts in our cities, suburbs and regions.

Our international keynote speaker, Utyae Lee from Canada, will delve into polycentric urbanism, suburbanisation and the future of cities. How will a booming city facilitate new growth so rapidly? Utyae is an incredibly entertaining and provocative Canadian urbanist and Youtuber, whose short documentaries on urban issues have amassed more than 1 million views.

We’ll hear from the LEGENDS of development to answer the questions of their past successes – and how they achieved them.

The spotlight will be turned onto our LEADERS to hear how they have accelerated, influenced and enhanced the rapid growth we have seen. We’ll explore issues around the future of suburbia and how governments and developers, designers and planners believe we can move forward under rapid population pressure and challenges in housing, construction, social infrastructure and congestion.

This year our international keynote speaker, Uytae Lee, is direct from Canada, and will be delivering our keynote presentation on polycentric urbanism, suburbanisation and the future of cities. Uytae is an urban planner, film maker, columnist and YouTube star.

Uytae’s videos educate and engage views on urban planning issues. He is the founder of ‘About Here’, a creative studio dedicated to helping people understand their cities better. In addition to his video work, Uytae is an adjunct professor at the UBC School of Journalism and a commissioner on the board of BC Housing.

The Future of Suburbia VI: LEADERS AND LEGENDS will open with an address from Deputy Premier Hon Jarrod Bleijie.

Hear from our impressive line up of LEGENDS in one-on-one interviews where they will be candidate and frank about their careers and projects, and how they see the future.

Our civic and industry LEADERS will explore themes of community engagement, planning and infrastructure, culminating in an industry panel which will be interviewed by Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner who will be asking the hard questions from an informed perspective, discussing ‘the next Australian city’ and what it will look and feel like to its residents.

The conference provides unparalleled networking opportunities, during registration, lunch and at the closing drinks.
