Welcome to The Sunderland Lit & Phil Society!Since closing its doors in 1873, this resurrected Literary & Philosophical Society will offer a space for residents of Sunderland to engage in vibrant and open discussions about the city's past, present, and future.
Lit & Phil Societies are a cornerstone of culture in our nation's great cities. They are renowned for academic exploration, vibrant and open discussion, socialising, networking, and radical culture building.
So get ready Mackems- we are back!
For this event, Auburn Langley, founder of the New Sunderland Lit & Phil Society, will be in conversation with guests to discuss the future of the Publishing Industry in Sunderland.
On March 6th 2025 6:30 pm, the Sunderland Lit & Phil Society will be joined by
Liz Dean (Author), Gerard Purvis (Harbour Printworks CIC), Helen Wilko (King Ink) and other guests TBC.
We are a city of writers! Poets, authors, historians, storytellers. We are all here and eager to share our words with the world.
As an industrious city, the Lit & Phil are asking, what's next for Sunderland's Publishing Industry?
This event will take place at The Athenaeum on Fawcett Street, the society’s historic home,
on Thursday 6 February between 6:30 pm - 9 pm.
