About this Event
THE FUTURE
Daniel Wang, cello • Xi Zhang, piano
Fredericksburg Music Festival & School 2026
Join us at St. Joseph’s Hall for an evening celebrating one of the most remarkable young artists of the next generation.
Presented as part of the Fredericksburg Music Festival & School, THE FUTURE features fourteen-year-old cellist Daniel Wang alongside pianist Xi Zhang in a program that moves between intimacy, virtuosity, folklore, and modern expression.
Praised for a musical maturity far beyond his years, Daniel Wang has quickly emerged as one of the most compelling young cellists of his generation. His 2025–2026 season includes concerto appearances with the Guangzhou Symphony Orchestra, Ningbo Symphony Orchestra, Lanzhou Symphony Orchestra, Symphony Parnassus, and Cambrian Symphony, as well as performances at the Beijing International Music Festival through Maestro Long Yu’s “Project Spring Bird” initiative supporting exceptional young artists.
This special festival recital offers audiences the opportunity to hear a rising international talent in the intimate setting of historic St. Joseph’s Hall in Fredericksburg, Texas — a setting designed for close listening, artistic discovery, and meaningful musical exchange.
The evening’s program journeys from the haunting spirituality of Maurice Ravel to the folk-inspired vitality of Sulkhan Tsintsadze, the elegance of Georg Philipp Telemann, and the expressive lyricism of Anton Arensky, culminating in a portrait of the cello as both ancient voice and modern instrument.
Program
- Ravel — Kaddisch, from Deux mélodies hébraïques
- Telemann — Fantasia No. 10, TWV 40:23
- Tsintsadze — Five Pieces on Georgian Folk Themes
- Thomas Demenga — EFEU for Solo Cello
- Arensky — Four Pieces for Cello and Piano, Op. 56
Daniel Wang is the recipient of numerous international honors, including the Director’s Award and Haydn Interpretation Award at the Gustav Mahler Cello Competition, as well as First Prize awards from the American Virtuoso International Music Competition, the Paris International Music Competition, and the Malopolska International Music Competition. He currently studies with Richard Aaron at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music Pre-College Academy.
Whether you are a devoted chamber music listener, a student seeking inspiration, or simply curious to encounter the next generation of great artists, THE FUTURE offers a rare opportunity to witness extraordinary young musicianship at the beginning of what promises to be an exceptional artistic journey.
