About this Event

As twilight descends over Biscayne Bay, the grounds of Vizcaya Museum and Gardens transform into something extraordinary: a glowing garden of meaning, built by the hands of your neighbors, your city, your community.

The Fruit We Bear — Studio Vizcaya’s summer finale — invites you to walk among giant illuminated fruit sculptures and experience the collective creativity of hundreds of Miami residents, brought to luminous life under the stars.

About the Evening

Working across weeks of free community workshops this summer, participants of all ages and backgrounds joined acclaimed multidisciplinary artist Shawna Moulton to build nine monumental papier-mâché fruit sculptures: oranges, grapefruit, mangoes, avocados, bananas, papaya, lychee, carambola (star fruit), and more. Each one embodies a shared human value — love, joy, peace, patience, hope, kindness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-love, and goodness — its surface embedded with the handwritten reflections, affirmations, drawings, and personal stories of those who built it.

On this special evening, the completed installation is yours to explore. Wander through a symbolic harvest. Read the embedded messages. Sit with the sculptures. Let the light — and the people behind it — speak to you.

What to Expect

• A light-filled outdoor installation set against the iconic backdrop of Vizcaya’s historic grounds and Biscayne Bay.

• Nine large-scale illuminated fruit sculptures, each representing a core human value, handcrafted by community members.

• An immersive, self-guided experience — wander at your own pace, read embedded community stories, and reflect on the values that connect us.

• A celebration of collective creativity — this installation exists because hundreds of people gave it their time, their hands, and their words.

The Fruit We Bear continues Studio Vizcaya’s tradition of transforming Vizcaya’s storied grounds into a living canvas of community light — a program that has inspired hundreds of makers and delighted thousands of visitors over the years.

To ensure Vizcaya Museum and Gardens remain beautiful, safe, and accessible for another 100 years, we are actively restoring and reinforcing key areas of the estate. As a result, portions of the Main House and Gardens may be temporarily closed. We appreciate your understanding and invite you to explore how we’re investing in Vizcaya’s future here.
