The Free Black Women's Library presents Friendship in Times of Fascism

The Free Black Women's Library is a literary hub, social site, Black Feminist archive, and community care space that features over 5000 books by Black women and Black non-binary folks, as well as a wide range of free public programs, special events, and creative workshops, a free store, a period pantry, a backyard garden, a virtual reading club, and weekly book swap.

What can friendship make possible—personally, politically, collectively?
This gathering explores how intimate bonds become sites of care, experimentation, and world-building.
Drawing inspiration from Black women writers and artists, we will consider how friendship can move us from theory into practice—especially at a moment when rising fascist forces seek to isolate us and fracture the social fabric.
Facilitated by Ruha Benjamin and Nesanet Abegaze, this discussion offers visions of connection as radical, generative acts—where “loving correction,” mutual care, and shared imagination open pathways toward more expansive ways of living together.
