The Fred Tompkins Quartet featuring Fred Tompkins (C flute & bass flute), Greg Mills (piano & melodica), Jim Hegarty (synthesizer) & Glen 'Papa' Wright, Jr. (percussion & kalimba) will play music at Jack's Joint every fourth Wednesday of the month. Why every fourth Wednesday? Because the first Friday, second Saturday and third Thursday didn't sound atonal enough. So, we went with the fourth Wednesday in order to give it the right theme. That's somewhat true, and completely unimportant.These great musicians have pushed the boundary of music for decades in St. Louis. They used to hold this free improv regularly at The Tavern of Fine Arts. Well, that venue went under, and they haven't had a regular gig doing this kind of thing for some time. In March 2024, that finally changed!
TO NOTE: The 2nd set of the evening will always feature special guest artists. This time we will present the extraordinarily gifted and creative improv pianist Greg Mills.
All are welcome to come sit-in with the group (or form their own group) on the third set. Anyone is welcome to make noise from wherever in the room that they would like, with the only request being that you act in a civilized manner.
So, come on out and have some fun with free jazz, atonal artistry, improvisational mastery or whatever it is that you would like to call it. These are deep music heads that always searching for a sound.

• Please give what you can to the donation, but none is required.
• Don’t buy the band drinks, they drink free. Give them money.
• Drinks are fine upstairs; food is allowed but discouraged.
