The Forgotten Hero of Pickett’s Charge: Wells Waite Miller
Advertisement
At just 21 years old, Ohio Captain Wells Waite Miller found himself with 150 men, facing roughly 6,000 Confederate soldiers during Pickett’s Charge at Gettysburg. Their extraordinary stand helped to break the Confederate advance, but Miller’s story has largely faded from history. Author and historian Kelly Boyer Sagert spent seven years researching Miller’s life for her award-winning biography, Wells Waite Miller and Me: An 8th OVI Civil War Biography.
Hear as she tells the story of Miller, the 8th Ohio Volunteer Infantry, and the fascinating journey of discovery that connected her own life to the Civil War soldier she set out to understand. This event is free and open to the public. Books will be available for purchase and signing.
The library is located at 211 Second Street, Elyria. This presentation is part of LCHS’s America 250 Speaker Series.
