The Fix Remix
About this Event
Set to a soundtrack of smooth tunes from Beats & Eats, we'll be transforming Selsdon Community Hall into a relaxed space to get creative, learn new skills and connect with others.
Hand-Mending Workshop
Learn simple hand-mending skills to help your clothes last longer. Bring along one or two items to practise techniques like hemming, patching and replacing buttons, with expert guidance from a lifelong textile crafter and Green Croydon Textile Repair Café volunteer Lettice Kemp.
The Mendfulness Clinic
Last year, when the fabric of Lou's life disintegrated, they had the sudden urge to make a quilt. This iteration of the one-to-one performance interaction The Mendfulness Clinic aims to turn that act of individual repair into a collective one.Join Lou on the quilt made from scraps of their old life to mend textiles, whilst exploring our fraying relationship with the fabric we use. Lou may or may not have donated some of their socks…
Together We Create
As part of the Together we Create residency, I invite you to come and chat to me about the important people and places that influence you, helping me to create an art work for you and with you.
Some playful invitations made at the last CMC event in June will be at the door to help you connect with others as you arrive, then come and join me! Between now and March there will also be several opportunities to meet in person and online, allowing everyone to take part in the project in whatever way works for them.
Food
As always, we'll also be serving a delicious buffet from a local restaurant, so come along, get creative, enjoy some food and discover a new part of the borough.
Don't forget to bring something to mend! Whether it's a skirt with a fallen hem, a shirt missing a button, a jumper with a hole or a pair of trousers that have been sitting at the bottom of your wardrobe waiting for attention, this event is all about giving the things we already own a second life.
