About this Event
On Wednesday, February 18, join us at Room 290 of the Stanford Law School for a Fireside Chat with Congressman Jim Clyburn as we celebrate his new book. This event is open to the public. Copies of The First Eight will also be available to purchase.
Congressman Jim Clyburn (D-SC) will be interviewed by Congressman Ro Khanna (D-CA) regarding Congressman Clyburn’s powerful, inspirational new book, The First Eight: A Personal History of the Pioneering Black Congressmen Who Shaped a Nation. Congressman Clyburn shares these men’s stories, as they pursued America’s great promise of equality for all. Through the trials, triumphs, and challenges that all nine men faced, Congressman Clyburn reveals an insightful new way of understanding the complex period between the Civil War and the present, one that until now has buried their life stories. Their story is our story, offering the lessons of history to help propel us into a more just and equitable future.
This event is co-sponsored by the Martin Luther King, Jr. Research and Education Institute, Stanford Center for Racial Justice, Department of African and African American Studies, and Stanford in Government.
