It's time to start again.This project is for those that have been impacted by sexual trauma, violence, and abuse. I'm inviting you to leave your fingerprint beside mine.
Why do this? In the aftermath of trauma, many of us feel isolated. For myself, I believed my experience was my fault. My shame kept me quiet. It wasn't until I heard someone else break their silence that I could finally break my own. Because of that voice, I found mine. Because of my voice, I found support. Because of support, I found my own strength - I found a new place for these experiences to reside; a place that empowered me.
Speaking out is tricky. It's hard. It's terrifying. And sometimes, it seems silence is what keeps us safe.
But what if ...
Every fingerprint on this panel represents a voice. With each 'voice', we get louder. Sometimes the smallest and simplest gestures allow us to regain something powerful, or simply recognize the power we had all along. This has been my experience; I'd like to share that with you. It's a way to show support and solidarity for those still trapped in silence. It's a way to silently use your own voice.
Next Collection Point: June 13th from 6-8pm, overlooking the ocean at Sunset Cliffs Natural Park in Ocean Beach.
Hand sanitizer, hand wipes, and CLEAN paint in multiple colors will be available. Masks are preferred while leaving your mark out of respect to those still vulnerable to COVID. Please DM with any requests/questions/support.
