Hello fellow Irish tenor banjo enthusiasts! You are cordially invited to the fifth annual tenor banjo gathering in beautiful banjo-friendly Baltimore! This year we'll be joined by three fantastic banjo instructors: Cliodhna Costello, Simon Lace, and Dan Neely. We'll also have four NON-BANJO (wow) classes with some of our guest musicians: Pádraig Ó Dubhgaill (Guitar), Kate Spanos (Sean Nos/Old Style dance), Noah Kelly (Fiddle), and Diarmuid Ó Meachair (accordion).
HOW IT WILL GO DOWN
FRIDAY, 9/25 We'll be having a welcome concert at the Creative Alliance in Patterson Park featuring Clíodhna Costello and Pádraig Ó Dubhgaill, Dan Neely with Diarmuid Ó Meachair and Matt Mulqueen, and Simon Lace with Eamon Sefton and Noah Kelly! It'll be open to the general public and will be a performance to remember, with late night sessions to follow! Anyone who loves Irish traditional music won't want to miss it!
SATURDAY, 9/26: we'll have banjo workshops during the day with our three instructors - attendees will be divided into three groups, and each group will rotate from teacher to teacher, so that everyone will get a total of four workshops, one with each teacher! If four is too much for you, there will also be sessions throughout the day, and vendors in the main room you can check out, so feel free to take it at your own pace!
We will also be offering four NON-BANJO (wow) classes with some of our visiting musicians during the three banjo class slots - these can be taken instead of or in addition to the banjo classes! After the three course blocks are over, all participants will gather in the theater for a perfomance and presentation by Dan Neely, Diarmuid Ó Meachair, and Matt Mulqueen about the music of the Flanagan Brothers, who recorded some of the first Irish music on the tenor banjo!
In the evening we'll have the Baltimore Ceili to get some movement in after a day of LEARNING! Come and dance the night away with us, meet your fellow banjo summit attendees, and take advantage of Baltimore's great Irish music and dance community! We'll also be having a big session afterwards, so make sure to bring any instruments you want to play!
A full schedule will be available to view soon!
