Performances will be Aug 9 - Aug 24 Friday and Saturday evenings with select Thursday and Monday evenings and select Saturday matinees.
Directed by Robert Johnston, Choreography by Rossy Thrall, and Music Direction by AJ Stanfield.
BLIND CASTING: In our commitment to inclusivity and unbiased selection, auditions and non-choreography callbacks will be blind. The director and musical director will not see auditioners. Performers are strongly encouraged to audition for roles they may not “traditionally” be considered for; women, trans/nonbinary, and people of color are especially encouraged.
WHAT TO PREPARE: 30-45 seconds of a song on the style of the show (classic Broadway, operetta, or jazz standard). If you are ONLY interested in the roles of The Mute, Henry, or Mortimer, please instead prepare a monologue, poem, or sonnet not to exceed one minute (memorization not required). A Bluetooth soundbar will be provided. Please bring a complete list of conflicts, as no additional conflicts can be accommodated after casting is complete.
The Fantasticks is a funny and romantic musical about a boy, a girl, and their two fathers who try to keep them apart. The narrator, El Gallo, asks the audience to use their imagination and follow him into a world of moonlight and magic. The boy and the girl fall in love, grow apart and finally find their way back to each other after realizing the truth in El Gallo's words that, "without a hurt, the heart is hollow."
For this performance, most performers will be on stage for the entire show, sitting on benches to the side when not actively performing. Each person must have the ability to stay in character for extended periods of time and react to the show as it unfolds.
