Please join us for a conversation with Pulitzer Prize-winning authors Jodi Kantor and Megan Twohey, moderated by Joan Gillman, to benefit the Westport Library.
When Jodi Kantor and Megan Twohey broke the Harvey Weinstein story in The New York Times on October 5, 2017, they exposed allegations against him that had been piling up for 30 years.
“We watched with astonishment as a dam wall broke,” Kantor and Twohey wrote of the response to their article. A day after it was published, so many women phoned The Times to report allegations of sexual harassment and assault against Weinstein that the paper had to assign additional reporters to handle the calls.
The #MeToo movement, already smoldering, was ignited.
Now, four years later, the #MeToo movement has had major social and political consequences across the globe.
In She Said, Kantor and Twohey take us for the first time into the very heart of this social shift, reliving in real time what it took to get the Weinstein story and giving an up-close portrait of the forces that hindered and spurred change. They describe the surprising journeys of those who spoke up – for the sake of other women, for future generations, and for themselves – and so changed us all.
