The Evolution Revolution

by Kimberly Sim

Directed by Claire Glenn

Devised by Conundrum's Performance Ensemble

Imagine a world without bodily autonomy. Where government control over its citizens is so complete, you could be forced to have surgery... to remove your butthole.

With the abolition of Roe v Wade, right-wing Governments, a global media that is monopolised by a powerful few with a transparent agenda, and the infringement of basic human rights throughout the world, is it really so hard to imagine?

From the creative heart of Singapore, The Evolution Revolution is an absurdist critique of socio-political control, the ethics of power and the importance of personal autonomy.

Why is homosexuality still a crime in some countries? Why is there such protection of “traditional marriage” around the world? Why is abortion now illegal in the US? And what is happening in Indonesia?

Using the prism of “Evolution Surgery” (or, the forced removal of the butthole), Conundrum Theatre’s Performance Ensemble interrogates the catastrophic failure of governments to protect its citizens.

Meet Lord Pinkle Dinkle Smith III, Ruler of Asina - where citizens live in peace and there is 'no I in We'. But Asina isn't what it seems to be. Food is scarce, families are being separated, and now, with Evolution Surgery, the people of Asina are about to lose their body autonomy – and their buttholes. Brought to you by award-winning Adelaide Theatre makers Claire Glenn and Anthony Kelly, and written by extraordinary emerging playwright, Kimberly Sim, The Evolution Revolution promises to be an absurd, hilarious, and poignant hour of theatre devised by some of the sharpest young minds in Singapore.

Will anyone survive with their butthole intact?
