The Enneagram and Three Instincts (Subtypes) Workshop
This workshop is for those who already know the Enneagram and recognize that understanding alone isn’t enough.
You may see your patterns clearly, and still find them repeating in real time.
What drives those patterns often lives at the level of instinct—beneath personality.
Over three days, we’ll work directly with that layer.
Not conceptually, but in your own lived experience.
This is where the Enneagram becomes real.
Not just something you understand, but something you begin to see in yourself, in your relationships, and in real time.
Over three days, we’ll explore the three core instincts—the fundamental drives that shape how you move through life, where you place your attention, and how you organize your energy.
As you begin to recognize your own instinctual pattern, and how it blends with your Enneagram type, something shifts.
Not all at once—but enough to begin making different choices.
Overview
Our instinctual nature is one of the most powerful forces shaping behavior, relationships, and daily life—yet it is rarely understood.
Without a conscious relationship to this layer, it becomes difficult to remain grounded, integrated, and fully present.
The Enneagram addresses this through the three instincts: Self-Preservation, Sexual (One-to-One), and Social.
These drives determine how you allocate your energy, what you prioritize, and how your personality expresses itself in the world.
Understanding your instinctual pattern—and how it combines with your type—reveals a deeper layer of your structure and opens the door to real transformation.
In this workshop, we explore how these instincts operate in real time within your lived experience, and how they shape both your inner world and your relationships.
What Makes This Workshop Different
You won’t just learn the system—you will see it. Through live panels and guided exploration, you will hear individuals describe their experience from the inside, revealing how instinct and type actually show up in real life. And something clicks, not because you have figured it out, but because you recognize it.
What You Will Learn
- How the Three Instincts are already shaping perception, attention, and behavior
- How your dominant instinct combines with your type to form your core structure
- How your instinctual “stack” influences strengths, blind spots, and relational patterns
- How instinctual imbalances keep fixation patterns in place
- How to recognize instinctual reactivity in real time
- Practical ways to begin balancing your instinctual drives
- How to cultivate presence as a stabilizing force across all three instincts
The Insight Approach®
This workshop uses the Insight Approach®, the experiential method developed by Don Riso and Russ Hudson over more than two decades. It includes guided meditations, sensing and presence-based awareness practices, experiential exercises and group exploration, movement and somatic work, music and imagery, and live panels with real-time inquiry. This approach helps participants recognize instinctual patterns in real time, creating the conditions for deeper awareness, integration, and meaningful change.
