About this Event
By Hans Christian Andersen, Adapted by Richard Giersch
The classic fable is brought to life in this Hans Christian Andersen story of greed and privilege. When it comes to fashion — well, everything — this emperor knows it all, or so he thinks. A charlatan decides to profit from his bombast. He persuades the emperor that he has the world’s most exquisite fabric. The emperor pays the “tailor” a fortune, but when he goes to inspect his dazzling new wardrobe, the con artist offers a clever trick that ultimately shows the foolishness brought on by the emperor’s “sophistication.”

Durham Arts Council CAPS Program Option
“From Page to Stage” Workshop or Residency presented by Vault Theatre
Bring the magic of theater directly into your classroom! Vault Theatre offers a pre and post workshop where students can bring a fairy tale from page to stage in their classroom. Prior to seeing the show, Vault Theatre teaching artists will use active theater games and exercises to create a connection between the English/Language curricular goals to the themes presented in the performance of “The Emperor’s New Clothes” performance at Carolina Theatre. A teaching artist will return after the performance to activate students’ own ideas connecting to what they saw on stage to further explore theater techniques to enhance children’s learning. While Vault Theatre can deliver one workshop either before or after, this program is best experienced with both a pre and post workshop bookending the experience at the theater.
