“Imaginative, subtly personal tribute to Duke Ellington” - The Guardian
The ‘Ellington Piano Project’ is a reimagining of Duke Ellington’s final album - ‘Eastbourne Performance’ a live recording from Eastbourne’s Congress Theatre, which was released in 1975.
We recorded the ‘Ellington Piano Project' a stone’s throw from the Congress Theatre, at Echo Zoo Studios, on the very same Steinway Grand piano that Ellington played on the original concert.
It was released on Rubicon Jazz in September 2025 and draws on harmonies and improvised phrases played during the 1973 concert, using fragments as inspiration for new compositions and spontaneous improvisations, alongside contemporary re-workings of Ellington classics.
We’ve just played to a sold-out house at legendary jazz club Ronnie Scott’s on 1st February and are bringing the band to Brighton on 28th February, for an exclusive show at St.Luke's Prestonville - a rare opportunity to hear the band live.
The band on 28th features special guest New York-based star tenor saxophonist Gideon Tazelaar, alongside Mark Edwards on keyboards, Arnie Somogyi on bass and Joe Edwards on drums. We’re hoping to be joined by a couple of special guests too.
