Johannesburg, South Africa — This November, the Joburg Theatre will play host to a groundbreaking cultural event that promises to captivate, challenge, and inspire. Teboho Montse, the visionary artist behind two compelling personas—Mkhanyakude and Pepsin—will take center stage in Mkhanyakude x Pepsin: A Two-Day Cultural Explosion, unfolding over two unforgettable nights at the Lesedi Theatre on 29 and 30 November 2025.More than a performance, this event is a journey into duality—two distinct worlds crafted by one artist, each rich with its own rhythm, message, and soul. On the first night, audiences will be entertained by recording artists from the Maximum Stylez Record Label and 2 guest performers. This is a testament to the longevity of MSR and the quality it has produced over the years and a taste of what is to come.

The evening will begin with a red carpet reception, followed by a curated performance and an intimate question-and-answer session with Montse himself. This is a rare opportunity to engage directly with the creative force behind two of South Africa’s most dynamic artistic voices.
The second night will deliver the full theatrical experience, immersing the audience in the lives of Mkhanyakude and Pepsin. Through music, movement, and storytelling, Montse will embody each character in a performance that fuses heritage with contemporary identity. Mkhanyakude, steeped in tradition and ancestral wisdom, channels the spirit of the land and the echoes of oral storytelling. His presence is poetic, mystical, and deeply rooted in South African culture. Pepsin, by contrast, is Montse’s reggae persona—a firebrand of rhythm and resistance, celebrated in the reggae community for his bold social commentary and messages of unity and hope.
Though these characters are distinct, they are not opposites. They are reflections of the same soul—two lenses through which Montse explores the complexities of identity, belonging, and transformation. “Mkhanyakude and Pepsin are not opposites,” says Montse. “They are reflections of the same soul. Through them, I get to tell the story of where we come from and where we are going, both as South Africans and as global citizens.”
Presented by Maximum Styles, Mkhanyakude x Pepsin is more than a show—it is a cultural statement.
