Rail Replacement Bus Service (Leeds)
Jodie Nicholson (Darlington)
The Early Purple (Northumberland)
Rail Replacement Bus Service are a Leeds-based songwriting collective founded by Tom Hammond after his former band, Heir, came to an end. Joined by Lily Sturt-Bolshaw (Sunflower Thieves) and George Harris (Askies), the group blends alternative and folk influences into heartfelt, engaging stories. Debuting with Volume I in April 2025, they follow a unique “new song every month” approach, building a growing catalogue of reflective, collaborative music. This autumn, they’re taking their debut LP, Volumes 1+2, on tour across some of the UK’s less-visited towns, bringing their music to audiences often overlooked by bigger tours.

Jodie Nicholson creates powerfully intimate, achingly human music. It doesn’t get any happier from here. Alongside inspirations of Daughter, Lucy Rose, Warpaint, TEED and HÆLOS, Nicholson combines introspective lyricism, brooding piano, subtle electronics, and delicate guitars to carve her own sonic identity. With walls of tightly knit harmonies (in what she likes to call ‘vocal landscaping’), Nicholson’s reed-like vocals remain the compelling constant over a constantly evolving sound.
Praised for her captivating live performances, Nicholson has graced All Points East, Wilderness, Y Not, Liverpool Sound City, Cambridge Folk Festival, Focus Wales and Live at Leeds – not to mention sharing stages with Emeli Sandé, Bernard Butler, Nerina Pallot, The Howl & The Hum, Luke Sital-Singh, Tom Rosenthal and Siv Jakobsen.
As well as extensive support at BBC Radio 1 from the likes of Sian Eleri and Jess Iszatt, Jodie has been playlisted on BBC Radio 6 Music and picked up further airplay from Jo Whiley on BBC Radio 2 and Patrick Kielty on BBC Radio 5 Live. To date, Nicholson has received over 40 national BBC radio plays.
Furthermore, Jodie’s self-produced, self-released tracks have landed two syncs on ITV’s Love Island and picked up tastemaker coverage from The Line of Best Fit, Atwood, Mahogany, Alexrainbird, Louder Than War, Record of the Day and a recent cover feature for NARC. Magazine, to name but a few.
Supported by PRS Foundation’s prestigious Open Fund grant and featuring beautiful co-writes with Old Sea Brigade, The Early Purple, Pet Snake and Cattle & Cane, Nicholson’s latest EP ‘We Can Talk’ is out now. To coincide with her upcoming UK tour dates, fan favourite ‘Live at the Old Church Studio’ is being released on vinyl for the first time.

The Early Purple is the project of Northumbrian musician Matt Saxon, a multi-instrumentalist whose deeply introspective approach to song writing delves into themes of mental health, personal growth and living & growing up in the North East of England. Known for his work with acclaimed North East acts like Little Comets and The Dawdler, Matt has spent the last decade contributing to the region’s vibrant music scene while quietly gathering a repertoire of his own.
The Early Purple’s last single The Greek Key embodies Saxon’s contemplative lyricism and draws inspiration from sacred geometry and the pursuit of new horizons. The track features special contributions from friend of the band Sam Fender on backing vocals and additional guitars.
After the release of the debut ‘Summer Hide’ EP, 2024 has included playing BBC Proms, a residency at the Glasshouse Summer Studios, touring with Hector Gannet, playing festivals, selling out local venues and playing support slots on Flyte, Efterklang and John Francis Flynn tours.
