About this Event
Location - Tate Hall Museum, second floor.
Step into Christmas and explore the origin stories behind some of the earliest English festive carols. Travel back through time to see how medieval folk songs and sacred chants gradually shaped the carolling traditions we know and love today, such as the Coventry Carol and the Boar’s Head Carol, along with a few enchanting gems that faded from common memory. Join Professor Lisa Colton, Professor of Musicology at the University of Liverpool, as she shares new insights into the legacy of medieval music and leads us in a celebratory seasonal singalong.
You can learn more about Lisa’s work around music and gender in the Lightbulb Moments exhibition, which includes the original score of Dame Ethel Smyth’s major choral and orchestral work, the Mass in D.
