The Durban Tearoom Baking Class: This Mother’s Day, I’ve put together something a little more special than usual. Not just a class, but an afternoon in my kitchen, sharing, baking and celebrating the women we love.
I’m calling it The Durban Tea Room. A limited edition baking experience inspired by the old-school bakeries and tea rooms we grew up with.
We’ll be making those beautiful long doughnuts, filled with fresh cream, buttercream or mock cream. I’ll be doing a hands-on demonstration of my mealie cake, something I’ve never shared before, even though we bake it daily in the store and it remains one of our bestsellers.
We’ll also be making old-fashioned buttery lamingtons, soaked in chocolate syrup and coated in coconut, just like the classics.
Then, those soft, delicate Swiss rolls. A light sponge filled with fresh cream, just like the ones from the Durban tea rooms we all remember.
And for the first time ever, I’ll be sharing my very special burfee cake recipe, a store favourite for the past 13 years.
This is a small, intimate class, created to share with the special lady in your life. Your mom, your daughter, your sister, or even just for yourself.
Each guest will also receive a copy of my Madam Curry recipe book, included as part of the experience.
