Her extraordinary rise saw her progress from an unknown medium to a household name.

She performed to packed audiences, including at London's iconic Palladium and the Sydney Opera House, and reached millions through her bestselling books. Her famous phrase, “You can't die for the life of you!”, became synonymous with her determination to challenge people's perceptions of death and the Spirit World.

But behind the fame, television appearances, packed theatres and bestselling books was simply Doris - a down-to-earth woman who never forgot her roots and who retained a remarkable warmth, humour and generosity towards the people around her.

The Doris Stokes Experience seeks to explore both sides of that extraordinary woman: the public phenomenon and the Doris known personally by those who worked alongside her, knew her and were influenced by her. A central part of the evening will be the story of Doris's remarkable career, illustrated through photographs, rare recordings, personal reminiscences and first-hand accounts. One of the evening's most significant contributors is Linda Dearsley, author, journalist and ghostwriter. Linda collaborated closely with Doris and was responsible for ghostwriting six of her seven books, including the hugely successful Voices in My Ear: The Autobiography of a Medium. Her unique perspective provides an opportunity to hear about Doris not simply as a public figure, but as the woman Linda knew and worked with throughout an important period of her life and career. Linda later revisited this extraordinary chapter by writing Voices Everywhere: The Mysterious Doris Stokes Effect.

The evening also brings a deeply personal connection through Lee Roberts, who was befriended by Doris as a young boy and trained by her. Lee's own journey into Spiritualism began in childhood, and his experiences with some of the leading figures in British Spiritualism helped shape his subsequent career as a medium, teacher and spiritual educator. His personal connection with Doris offers another perspective on the woman behind the public persona.

Joining Linda and Lee is Bev Mann, international clairvoyant medium, teacher, mentor and author. Linda Dearsley wrote 2 of Bev Mann's books. Bev's own spiritual journey has included extensive development and training. Bev has continued to work within the tradition of evidential mediumship and brings her own experience and perspective to an evening dedicated to Doris's enduring influence.

The evening also features Laura Wood, an established Spiritualist medium based in London. Laura is known for her detailed evidential communication and compassionate approach to public demonstration, bringing another generation of mediumistic experience to an event centred upon Doris Stokes and the continuing development of Spiritualism.

The event will ultimately move from story and remembrance into live demonstration.
