The District House is a benefit of District216. Come by for a portion or all of the evening, meet amazing members + guests, and interact with speakers on a variety of topics.
Topic: "Live Your Myth: Realizing Holistic Harmony In a Cacophonous World"
Description : The distillation of over two decades of spiritual wandering, research, and practice; from my unique childhood as the only son of a lauded celebrity, to a spontaneous spiritual experience in my teens, to my years as a travelling Tea Master, and finally my introduction to Amazonian Shamanism and unique approach to Hypnotherapy informed by my extensive work with plant medicines.

Speaker: Barnaby Gallagher, founder Barnaby Hypnotherapy As the son of Gallagher the Watermelon Smashing Comedian, my childhood was far different than most. I had bungee cords and a swing hanging from my living room ceiling, marbles at the bottom of our jacuzzi, and all the toys and material comforts I could ever dream of. I treasured my childhood, and appreciated the unique experiences my celebrity father was able to give to me. But as I grew older, I noticed that there was a hole in my soul that nothing money could buy was able to fill. It took me until the age of 30, and a formal education in Psychology to realize that the Garden of Eden I grew up in was not as idyllic as I believed. My fathers larger-than-life personality was a disguise which hid a deeply wounded soul that suffered from Narcissistic Personality Disorder. His keen interest that I was always entertained could never replace his near total lack of interest in me (who I was as a person, my dreams, or my emotional needs.)
My teen years were a cloud of pot smoke, video games, and failures at forging intimate relationships. I hated school, and my grades showed it, always preferring to read and learn on my own. Shortly after graduating I had no direction in life whatsoever, and depression took me.
That all changed when a girl broke my heart so profoundly that I experienced a kind of spontaneous ego death, and was thrust into an intense spiritual experience that lasted for several days. That night my juvenile atheism died forever, and I began to walk the path of a wounded healer. It has been a long road with many break downs, wrong turns, and diversions along the way.
I moved to Santa Monica and lived as a hermit before a friend that practiced Chinese Medicine introduced me to the wider visionary art community. I became a Tea Master, first serving publicly at a Los Angeles event for MAPS (The Multidisciplinary Association for Psychedelic Studies). Since that first tea ceremony, I traveled for years giving tea away for free at hundreds of parties and events; such as Lightning in a Bottle, Burning Man, and even on board the Queen Mary.
Now I study much stronger "tea."
Eventually I put away my tea pot, and put on a suit and tie to begin work as a Hypnotherapist, which I consider consanguineous to Shamanism. Whether we follow the rhythm of a deerskin drum or the voice of a therapist into the depths of our being, the destination and goal is the same.
