About this Event

Four plays! Four nights!

The Disruptors is a chance to see new work written and performed by artists you may never have seen before – and some whose work you already know and love. It’s theatre at its best – affordable, approachable and provocative.

The Disruptors play readings will take place at the end of September at Campbell House Museum. Tickets are pay-what-you-can, with $10/$20/$30 options.

This is a Canadian Actors’ Equity Association production under the Artists’ Collective Policy.

September 30 – Windfall

Co-created by Vince Deiulis and Genna Giampaolo.

January 1968: 64-year old mining magnate and entrepreneur, Viola MacMillan is found guilty and sentenced to Pr*son. Her crime? Being a successful woman in a male-dominated industry.

In Windfall, Viola transports the audience to the height of her success and relives an important interview with a young Maclean’s journalist, Christina McCall – all the while grappling with her new reality during the first hours at Toronto’s Don J*il.

Other Shows in The Disruptors' Series:
September 28 - Janet Wilson Meets the Queen

by Beverley Cooper

It’s 1969. A year where everything is so political: music, fashion, the Vietnam war, Trudeaumania, the FLQ. Housewife Janet Wilson is desperately trying to uphold the social status quo and keep her dysfunctional family together. But when a draft-dodging nephew shows up at her door, Janet’s once-stable world turns upside down.

A pre-pandemic hit at Ottawa’s Great Canadian Theatre Company, Janet Wilson Meets the Queen is a black comedy about political apathy.

September 29 - Kate and Bianca

by Marcia Johnson

Women’s strength is at the very heart of Kate and Bianca.

Marcia Johnson has taken the historical hoax of Toronto’s James Mink, a 19th century Black millionaire, and mashed it up with The Taming of the Shrew. In this radical retelling, Baptista offers a dowry for his daughter Kate, hoping to give her a better chance in life if she marries a white man. Sure enough, one appears – a shifty horse trader who spirits his bride south across the border – and into slavery.

October 1 - Shakespeare Club + Gala Night

by Dave Carley

An ice storm has locked in Peterborough. The streets are impassible. Hydro lines are being brought down by ice-heavy branches. Nevertheless, a determined trio of women is gathering in one of their homes to study Shakespeare’s The Tempest. But everyone has an agenda – and soon the storm raging outside the meeting is matched by conflict inside…

Based on the true story of a century-old group, Dave Carley’s Shakespeare Club is a tale of a power structure splitting, and minds cracking open.

This showing of Shakespeare Club will be followed by a special Gala Night after party celebrating the Disruptors run at Campbell House Museum!
