Immerse yourself in this powerful ancient story, retold in full with musical accompaniment and verses from the original Sanskrit text, during the auspicious period of Navaratri. Pregnant with many deeper layers of meaning, the Devimahatya is the primary source for the ‘Shakta’, or Goddess-worshipping tradition in India. It tells of how the Devi, in times of great calamity, manifests in Her warrior form to restore balance to the world. The text is dated at around 1500 yrs old.
On the Monday following the performance, there will be an evening in the ashram library where we explore the levels of meaning and symbolism in the Devimahatmya (see the Beacon Yoga Centre website for details on this and other events during the navaratri period).
