About this Event

**THIS LISTING is to RSVP for the In-Person events ONLY. **To receive a link to the livestream, please register here.

In June of 1983, a group of passionate people with AIDS came together to develop The Denver Principles, a revolutionary declaration that demanded respect, dignity, and autonomy for people living with HIV. In honor of this pivotal moment in HIV/AIDS history, we are having a series of events to celebrate the global impact and legacy of this document.

On June 12, 2023, exactly 40 years after this document was written, we will present two panels of speakers, followed by a celebratory reception, at The Curtis Hotel--the very site where the creators met to write TDP and disrupted the keynote speaker at the 2nd National AIDS Conference. (It was The Executive Tower Inn at the time.) Please see agenda for more detailed information.

This event will be hybrid in nature, with in-person events available via livestream to anyone, anywhere. It is an all-ages event, free and open to the public. Donations to help support the costs of this event are welcome; details on how to do so are below.

Accessibility information: We will have live ASL available and Spanish translation for virtual attendees (in-person is TBD)

For those joining us in person:

There will be community members joining us who have a variety of health challenges and compromised immune systems, out of an abundance of caution, we ask that you stay home if you aren’t feeling well or have recently been around someone newly diagnosed with COVID. Community members may choose to wear masks and we support individuals in protecting themselves to the extent they feel necessary. We will have masks and COVID tests on hand for any who need them. The room at the hotel has large glass garage doors that will be open to an outdoor patio, so air circulation will be abundant. For more information on current COVID policies and local to Colorado information, please visit https://covid19.colorado.gov/

On June 11, we will also be having a walking history tour about local LGBTQ+ history. We will meet at The Curtis Hotel and walk about 15 minutes to The Grove at Commons Park, Denver's own AIDS memorial. David Duffield will lead the walk, alongside members of the groups who founded and care for The Grove. Please indicate you interest in joining the walk via the "add-on" option when you reserve your ticket (in-person only).

More information can be found on the event page.

In conjunction with these events, we are also holding an art exhibition at the McNichols Building just a short walk from The Curtis. 'Eyes Wide Shut -Visual Meditations on the Plague-' will be on view from June 1- July 1, with viewing hours daily from 8 am - 5 pm. An opening reception will be held on Friday, June 16 from 6-9 pm. We are also planning additional events at the exhibition--please stay tuned for those. And make sure to view the other exhibitions throughout the building!
