About this Event

This event will take place online via Zoom as well as in person at The Library for the Performing Arts.

In this episode of the Dance Historian Is In, dance critic Marina Harss focuses on the “Russian” period of Mikhail Baryshnikov, discussing recordings from the Jerome Robbins Dance Division from his Soviet performances, from his time at Vaganova Academy, and to his performances with the Kirov Dance Academy. The lecture will include reflections by Baryshnikov from his predefection interviews on subjects like his friendship with Joseph Brodsky, and his work with fellow Russian-exile George Balanchine.

Through this discussion, Harss explores the idea of Baryshnikov’s Russianness, particularly featuring his collaboration with Jerome Robbins, Other Dances.

*A streaming link will be emailed to everyone on the morning of the event for those wishing to attend virtually.
