Schedule

Wed Jul 31 2024 at 06:45 pm to 08:45 pm

Location

Spitfire Visitor Centre Hangar 42 | Lytham St Annes, EN

This is to be an illustrated and informative talk about the Ww2 Dams raids of 1942. Using what was referred to as the 'bouncing bomb', the talk will cover the work of its inventor Barnes Wallis and the testing and challenges he faced.
We will use models and pictures (used to be slides, now 'Powerpoint' presentation) to illustrate the event that became famous in the 1955 film starring Richard Todd as Squadron- Leader Guy Gibson.
The event will be in two parts with a break for Tea and Coffee, and a chance for a brief look around parts of the Spitfire Visitor Centre.
At the end of the talk there will be a Raffle prize, amongst the prizes will be a full-sized replica of the Bombsight as used by 617 Squadron, and a scale model of Guy Gibson's Lancaster used on the evening of the famous raids. The talk will be presented by Volunteer Lloyd Martin, who has been an aviation enthusiast and Author for many years.
