About this Event
Immanuel Kant's Critique of Judgment is the founding text for modern discussions of aesthetics, the sublime, and the beautiful. It also raises questions about the nature of judgment in general in the realms of everyday social life and of politics.
In this seminar, we'll spend four weeks reading sections in the Critique of Judgment on the beautiful and the sublime along with some related articles. If there is interest, there will be a follow-up four week course on the reception of this work in Nietzsche, Arendt, Adorno, and modern art criticism. We will be using the paperback Cambridge UP edition, titled Critique of the Power of Judgment, edited by Paul Guyer. You can order a copy when you register or bring your own.
Participants must commit to attending all four weeks of the class, which will meet on February 8th, 15th, 22nd, and March 1st from 11am-1pm. We are limiting attendance to 10 people. You must purchase a ticket for each of the four sessions.
If you would like Clio's to order you a copy of the edition we will be using, please write to us immediately.
