Join Andrew Legere, fine art photographer and owner of Legere Fine Art Services, for a two week hands on workshop exploring the philosophy and photography of William Eggleston. Together we will study one of the pioneers of colour photography, examining how he transformed the ordinary into extraordinary photographs through his remarkable use of colour, light, and composition.
At a time when serious photography was almost exclusively associated with black and white, William Eggleston challenged the conventions of the medium by embracing colour as a powerful visual language. Rather than photographing spectacular places or dramatic events, he turned his attention to everyday life—suburban streets, parked cars, grocery stores, signs, ceilings, and quiet corners of the American South. Through his photographs, colour became more than a descriptive element; it became a way of communicating mood, atmosphere, and emotion. His work forever changed the way photographers understand and use colour.
In this workshop we will explore Eggleston's philosophy of seeing, his approach to composition, and the expressive potential of colour. Together we will examine how colour influences meaning, how it shapes our emotional response to a photograph, and how ordinary subjects can become visually compelling through careful observation and thoughtful composition.
Over two weeks you will develop your understanding of colour through a series of guided photographic assignments and collaborative critiques. Beginning with an introductory seminar, we will study Eggleston's working methods before heading into the streets to photograph our own surroundings. Through discussion, editing, and thoughtful critique, you will refine your ability to communicate through colour and create photographs that move beyond documentation toward personal expression.
Your final project will be professionally printed, and presented as a finished museum quality piece. Two photographs will be carefully refined through the proofing process before being archival mounted, custom matted, and framed in two 11×14 frames by Legere Fine Art Services. The result is not simply a print, but two finished works of art, thoughtfully crafted and ready to hang, exhibit, or become part of a permanent collection.

Assignment I: Photowalk – The Language of Colour
Our first assignment is about learning to see colour differently. Rather than searching for extraordinary subjects, we will discover how colour itself can transform the familiar into something remarkable.

Critique & Refinement
A collaborative critique of Assignment I, exploring how colour influences mood, atmosphere, and meaning within a photograph. Together we will review each participant's work, refine our approach, and conclude the evening with an introduction to the final assignment.

Assignment II: Photowalk – Colour and Meaning
Our final assignment brings together everything we've explored throughout the workshop. We will continue working in the streets, refining our ability to recognize how colour, light, and composition work together to shape atmosphere and meaning. Rather than searching for dramatic subjects, we will discover how ordinary places and everyday moments can become extraordinary photographs through the expressive power of colour.
Tuesday, September 8
6:00pm – 9:00pm
Final Critique and Print Selection
Our final evening together is dedicated to reviewing the completed assignments and selecting the photographs that best represents each participant's work. Together we will refine each final image through discussion, and editing before it is professionally printed, archival mounted, custom matted, and framed as a finished museum quality photograph.
Sunday, Sept 13
Afternoon
Final Reveal
Our workshop concludes with the unveiling of each participant's finished photographs. Professionally printed, archival mounted, custom matted, and framed, these two photographs represent the culmination of two weeks spent exploring William Eggleston's philosophy of colour and learning to use colour as a visual language to communicate mood, atmosphere, and meaning.
