This event is co-hosted by Community Stabilization Project (CSP) Urban Farm and Garden Alliance, and On Stage: Creating a Community Dialogue Around Live Theater.

Join us for a stimulating theater presentation and discussion led by local actors and teaching artists Harry Waters Jr., T. Mychael Rambo and Sun Mee Chomet. Participants will read two scenes from the play, The Courtroom: A Reenactment of One Woman’s Deportation Proceedings, a play that Jungle Theater will be producing from June 1 - June 11 @ Hamline University and June 13 - July 2 @ Jungle Theater. The readings will be followed by a discussion of the themes, tying in current events, personal values, and narratives. Participants will also receive a ticket discount to see the play at Jungle Theater or Hamline University.

Transcripts Arranged by Arian Moayed. This unique show has garnered great critical attention in recent years, performed as a mock-trial and in real courtrooms to blur the lines of reality & theater to tell this impactful story. Arranged by Tony nominee Arian Moayed, The Courtroom explores and examines the U.S. immigration system and those at its mercy. A re-enactment of deportation proceedings lifts excerpts from courtroom transcripts, and recounts the hearings of an immigrant from the Philippines on a K3 Visa who faced deportation once she inadvertently registered to vote in Chicago and voted after receiving a registration card. Some questions that could be touched on in the discussions include: What does it mean to be an American? Have you ever left the U.S. before? If so, what did it feel like to be "an American”? How were you treated? Does the judicial system work for you?

*Community Stabilization Project (CSP)’s mission is to build TENANT STABILITY THAT WILL LEAD TO COMMUNITY by: informing, educating, advocating for and organizing tenants to take action to preserve and increase the supply of healthy, safe and affordable housing in the City of Saint Paul.
*Urban Farm and Garden Alliance (UFGA) is a collaboration of eight to ten Community Gardens and a group of Backyard Box Gardeners that promotes reconciliation, healing, peace, social and environmental justice through the cultivation and sharing of food in the Summit-University (Rondo) and Frogtown communities of St. Paul, MN.
*On Stage: Creating a Community Dialogue Around Live Theater is a fiscally sponsored program through Springboard for the Arts and is designed to strengthen community support by reaching a wider "non-traditional" theater audience. Discussions touch on important ethical and civic questions, as well as other themes developed in the chosen works. In addition to community events, On Stage holds discussions in a variety of college and high school classes (in-person and online) to get a younger and more diverse audience to see live theater.
