The Counseling Compact creates a landmark change in the Professional Counseling landscape. As of September 2026, eight of the 38 Compact States, including Tennessee, are now live (i.e., active) enabling eligible Licensed Professional Counselors in those states to apply for privileges to practice in other live Compact States.
This webinar provides essential information and guidance for licensed professional counselors (e.g., LPC/MHSPs) who are interested in becoming Compact Counselors.

This 3 CE hour program for licensed professional counselors will:

• Clearly explain how the Counseling Compact works.
• Specify the requirements and steps for practicing under the Compact .
• Present key strategies for identifying the best Compact States in which to pursue privileges to practice.

The program covers:

• What is the Counseling Compact and how does it work?
• Who is eligible to become a Compact counselor?
• States that are currently part of the Counseling Compact and which states have gone live (i.e., are currently granting privileges to practice).
• Process for obtaining a privilege to practice in a Compact Member State
• Guidance about whether becoming a Compact Counselor might benefit your practice.
• Strategies for determining which Compact states would be best for obtaining privileges to practice.

Learning objectives:

Upon completion of the training participants will be able to . . .

1. Identify the five provisions for practicing legally across state lines.
2. Explain the purpose and function of the Counseling Compact.
3. Describe the requirements and steps for a professional counselor to become a Compact Counselor.
4. Discuss strategies for determining which Compact States might be best for an LPC to pursue a privilege to practice.

Speaker:

Terry Casey, Ph.D., Licensed Psychologist, HSP (TN #1975). Dr. Casey has trained thousands of mental health professionals about cross-state practice and the Counseling Compact. He has conducted over 300 webinars, seminars, and presentations related to ethical, legal, and practice issues. Since 2008, Dr. Casey has taught Ethical, Legal, and Professional Issues in a CACREP-accredited M.S. program in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. He also served as the Clinical Director for a large counseling and psychological services organization for 18 years. Dr. Casey operates a consulting practice near Nashville, Tennessee, serving private practices and counseling/mental health-related organizations. This seminar provides 3.0 CE hours (3.0 NBCC hours) through Renaissance Counseling & Psychological Specialists (RCPS) (NBCC ACEP 7457)*.

Recording

This is a live in-person event. Registration for this program does not include a video recording of the seminar. However, all participants will receive a complete copy of the slides that are shared during the seminar.
