LA Arts is pleased to host “The Corner,” an evening of community storytelling with a dessert potluck, organized by Community Plate. Join us in the LA Arts Gallery on the 2nd Thursday of each month from 7-9pm.
With new story themes announced each month, this is an open call for aspiring and experienced storytellers to step into the spotlight for a few minutes of personal storytelling. The themes at The Corner are always just a starting point, meant to be interpreted broadly to spark your storytelling appetite and get the creative juices flowing!
Come tell, come listen! This is a free community event for storytellers and story listeners -- a chance to be in community with diverse people; an opportunity to learn about other people and get a glimpse into others’ lives; and a way to connect to others.
New to The Corner this year: Bring a dessert to share! In addition to pizza from DaVinci’s, we’ve added a DESSERT POTLUCK! Bring something sweet to share with your fellow storytellers and story listeners.
December Story Theme: "Short Days, Long Nights”
As we head into December's winter solstice, the days are getting shorter and the nights are getting longer. It's a time of year when our relationship with time and light changes. A little bit of daylight becomes all the more precious and long dark evenings are opportunities to hunker down and turn inward towards introspection. Think about times when light or darkness impacted your life, either literally or emotionally. Do you have a story about someone who was a ray of light in your life, even briefly, or a long eventful pilgrimage you made to the point of totality. You might also tell a story about an experience that was over too soon, or one that stretched on too long: The date that seemingly would never end, or a night on the town that you wished would last forever.
As always, themes at the Corner are just a starting point. A guiding light, if you will, you should always feel free to explore story ideas that might be just off the path or hiding in the shadows.*
P.S. While in the gallery, you’ll also enjoy the visual storytelling of Sam Onche’s “Homecoming” exhibit, which runs through December 20, 2024.
* Some stories may include adult themes and language.
