About this Event
The 2nd annual Heartland Book Festival will take place on October 12 at the Central Library in downtown Kansas City with authors, books, activities, and more! Join us for a poetry writing workshop located in the Turner Board Room.
A contrapuntal poem is made up of multiple poems, which invites readers to read the poem in two or more ways. Learn about the poem’s origins, read examples by Nkosi Nkululeko, Tyehimba Jess, and others, then write, share drafts, and devise strategies for completing your own poems in this tradition.
This workshop is taught by a student in the University of Missouri-Kansas City’s MFA Program in Creative Writing and is intended for ages 16 and up.
The Heartland Book Festival is co-presented by the Kansas City Public Library, Missouri Humanities, and the Missouri Center for the Book.
This workshop is presented through the Writers for Readers partnership between the Library and the University of Missouri-Kansas City.
