About this Event
Description
Andrew N. Ferguson was named Chairman of the FTC by President Trump on January 20, 2025, though a Republican majority was not established on the Commission until the de facto (and perhaps de jure) dismissals of Commissioners Rebecca Kelly Slaughter and Alvaro Bedoya on March 18 of that year.
With roughly one year completed under this new leadership, our panel will take stock of the FTC’s recent trajectory. We will explore what has changed—and what has remained constant—since the tenure of Lina M. Khan. The discussion will evaluate the agency’s performance in court and examine how the current enforcement record, coupled with recent policy statements and initiatives, signals the future of antitrust and consumer protection.
Panelists
- Chris Mufarrige (Director of the FTC’s Bureau of Consumer Protection. He previously served as an Attorney Advisor and Chief of Staff to FTC Commissioner Melissa Holyoak, and as a Senior Advisor at the CFPB)
- Maureen Ohlhausen (Partner at Wilson Sonsini and Co-Chair of the firm’s Antitrust practice. She is a former FTC Commissioner and Acting Chairman, and previously headed the FTC’s Office of Policy Planning)
- Noah Joshua Phillips (Partner at Cravath and Co-Chair of the firm’s Antitrust practice group. He is a former FTC Commissioner)
Conversation moderated and hosted by Daniel J. Gilman (Senior Scholar of Competition Policy, International Center for Law & Economics, and former Attorney Advisor, FTC Office of Policy Planning)
