About Maria Zemen

Maria Zemen was born in 1982 in St. Louis, Missouri to her Hungarian immigrant father and her third generation, Italian mother – her cultural roots have largely shaped her journey.

Growing up, Maria was active in the Hungarian Cultural Society, sports, theatre, dance and various community groups. At 17 years old, in the aftermath of the Columbine school shooting, Maria co-founded an anti-violence program called S.A.N.E. Schools and was nominated to attend the Voices Against Violence teen conference in Washington D.C. where she met President Bill Clinton. This was the first time Maria realized she could make a positive difference in this world.

Upon high school graduation, Maria was ready to spread her wings and chose to attend Loyola University Chicago where she graduated Magna Cum Laude with a bachelor’s degree in communication in 2004. Two weeks after graduation, she gifted herself a solo trip to Spain to celebrate her independence and prepare for her next chapter in life.

Once she returned, she started working at The Center For Association Growth in Glenview, Illinois, until she became engaged and moved to Cleveland, Ohio to start a life with her fiancé in 2005. It was during this marriage that Maria lost her voice, her independence, and nearly her life.

By the age of 24, Maria was isolated, battling a toxic marriage and recently diagnosed with a severe form of an autoimmune disease called POTS. She was ten hours from family, six hours from friends and a lifetime away from the identity she knew; Maria was lost. After seeing six marriage counselors in three years, Maria found her voice. In 2009 she walked away from her marriage leaving with only her personal belongings, a bed frame and her beloved Vizsla, Lila, to begin again.

With renewed energy and focus, Maria was determined to heal herself physically from POTS and emotionally from a lifetime of abuse. She became her own holistic health advocate and starting diving into nutrition, fitness, and trauma healing. She acquired various fitness certifications in TRX and Spinning, dove into cognitive therapy and self-love work, and in 2018 she obtained her health coaching and life coaching certifications from the Health Coach Institute. In 2019, after thirteen years in a corporate job, she started her own holistic health coaching business – True To You Coaching, LLC. – to focus on helping others heal physically, nutritionally, and emotionally.

As a coach, Maria has worked with over 325 individuals to align their holistic health and healing. Her coaching specialties include women’s empowerment, autoimmune disease focused nutrition, emotional wound healing work, and divorce and financial independence coaching. Maria has partnered with various organizations including: Content Marketing World, Cross Country Mortgage, Keller Williams, and Luma Wealth to name a few.

Maria lives in Cleveland, Ohio with her one-year-old Vizsla, Leo, and is grateful that she gets to wake up with her health, happiness and whole self. She aims to make a positive difference in this world through her coaching business and personal experiences and is excited for what the next chapter brings.
